CRCTs: April 11-18th

Well folks, we have come to that time of the year.  CRCTs start on Wednesday!  The math CRCT will be on Monday April 16th.  Make sure everyone gets good rest and has a good breakfast!

Midterm Tests December 20-22nd

Changes to Academic Lab during the Week:

Since the beginning of the school year, I have had Academic Lab during Advisement time in 5th period.  This was open for students to come and ask questions regarding content or homework.  Well, we have made some changes to make sure that we can reach everyone.

Starting the week of November 7th we will begin the following schedule:

Monday: Lunch n' Learn
Tuesday: Working Lunch
Wednesday: Lunch n' Learn
Thursday: Working Lunch

Lunch n' Learn will be comprised of students that I have chosen based on test data that I will come in during the entire 5th period (normally lunch and Advisement).  The students and I will walk down to the cafeteria to get lunch, come back to the room, and work on previous concepts during the period.  The idea is to provide remediation for students who did not master certain concepts.  The student body of Lunch n' Learn will change every couple of weeks, as will the topics discussed in class.

Working Lunch will be like Academic Lab, but will be for the entire period.  Students may come in at any time during this period to receive help on the material we are covering currently in class.  Mr. Goodwin and I will be switching off on who will cover Advanced and who will cover On-Level.  Once this schedule is confirmed, I will post it here.  Students do not need to have permission from me to come to Working Lunch.  They may come at their own free will.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

MORE CHANGES....WEEKLY HOMEWORK SHEET

Parents, due to large amounts of paper we have used thus far this year, we have decided to discontinue the Weekly Homework Sheet in an effort to not kill as many trees.  :)

Please check your child's agenda daily to make sure their homework has been written down.  Test, Quizzes, and Projects will continue to be posted on the calendar on the website and on the calendar in class.  Homework can be checked on the website as well.

Thank you in advance for your understanding!

CHANGES TO THE WEBSITE!

- Please note that I will only be putting the homework on the website and not on the calendar going forward.
- From now on, I will use the Calendar to post quizzes, tests, project, etc.

Thanks!

Online Textbook!  I have finally figured out how to set it up so that students may access the textbook online, rather than having to lug it home every night.  Please click on the link www.pearsonsuccessnet.com

Once on the home page use the following login information:
User Name: mathstudent6
Password: powers

After being logged in, students may select the following:
Student Center: A new window will open allowing you to look through the textbook either by selecting a specific page or by using the Contents tab to find the lesson section.
Worksheet Center: A new window will open and multiple links will appear.  ONLY select the Daily Practice Worksheets Version A.  These are all of the pages of the Workbook if students forget to bring home their workbook.

By the end of grade six, students will understand the four arithmetic operations as they relate to positive rational numbers; convert between and compute with different forms of rational numbers; understand the concept of ratio and solve problems using proportional reasoning; understand and use line and rotational symmetry; determine the surface area and volume of solid figures; use variables to represent unknown quantities in formulae, algebraic expressions and equations; utilize data to make predictions; and determine the probability of a given event.
Instruction and assessment should include the use of manipulatives and appropriate technology. Topics should be represented in multiple ways including concrete/pictorial, verbal/written, numeric/data-based, graphical, and symbolic. Concepts should be introduced and used in the context of real world phenomena.
